Garfield Moves on to Semi-final game
May 23, 2013 05:22 AM Filed in: News Updates
The Garfield Bulldogs, following their defeat of Overlake at Genessee Field last night move on to face Richland in a game scheduled for next week. The League has posted the time as 5pm on 5/29 (Wednesday). Please be aware that this is incorrect!
We are working with the Richland organization to have the game rescheduled for Tuesday 5/28 to avoid a scheduling conflict with HS graduation ceremonies slated for Wednesday. No matter what the outcome, the game will be played at Genessee Field.
On the other side of the bracket, Nathan Hales draws Ballard in their semifinal matchup. This game is also likely to be rescheduled as NH has several players in the same graduation snafu that entangles us.
The winners of next week’s semifinal games move on to the championship title game on June 1st at Memorial Stadium.
The Bulldogs have been playing excellent lacrosse lately. Let’s keep the pressure on, as Richland (the renamed Three Rivers team) is a big, physical team who likes to push the envelope, both on field and off. We are extremely fortunate to have the home field advantage here, where we have access to better, more experienced referees, but we still have to win the game on the field.

Bulldogs Advance to Quarter Finals
May 19, 2013 08:10 AM Filed in: News Updates | Schedules
Following Friday night’s solid win against cross town rival Bishop Blanchet, the 2013 Garfield Bulldogs advances on to the quarter final round of the WHSBLA DII Championship tournament. They will face Overlake, who cruised past Gig Harbour, next Wednesday, May 22nd at Genessee Field, at 5pm.
Nathan Hale moves on to the quarterfinals where they will face Mt Si, while Stadium advances to play Ballard which upset Wenatchee earlier today.
Richland defeated Kennedy in a controversal OT win, and will face Sehome-Bellingham who secured the final quarter final berth with a late win over Klahowya.
The Playoff Brackets will be updated regularly as results roll in. The full schedule of all playoff games is on Sportability.
There is some questions regarding home field determination coming in. Quoting from the League Handbook:
12.11.1 Higher seed hosts; if both teams have same seed #, then team with better record in all league schedule games ( conference and non-conference) will host
12.11.2 If seed # and records are equal then team from stronger conference (based on overall conference W-L percentage, including all league scheduled conference and non-conference games, will host
So, if we win on Wednesday, there are two possibilities for the semi-final game on 5/29. If Richland beats Sehome-Bellingham, the game with Richland would be at Genesee, since Garfield has the better overall record. If, on the other hand, Sehome-Bellingham wins, we would likely have to travel up north, since we are tied with them regarding overall seed, and we are both undefeated in overall records. They however have a slightly stronger conference, as determined by league rule.
We’d like to remind all team supporters to exhibit good sportsmanship at these games. Emotions can run high, but if allowed to run unchecked, can lead to penalties being called on the team. Please be conscious of those around you, and help keep behaviors in line…
Please remember to reserve Sunday June 2, 2013 for the Garfield Lacrosse End of Season Party. This annual event is a formal wrap up to the season and will be held no matter what the season’s outcome…win or lose!
Playoff Bound!

The 2013 Bulldogs are once again in the Division II playoff hunt. Following an undefeated season (10-0-0) we have the #1 seed in the KingCo Conference. We have a first round bye this weekend, with our first game scheduled for next Friday, May 17th at 5pm at Genesee Field. Garfield will be facing the winner of the Blanchet-Gonzaga Prep game that will be played Saturday 5/11 over in Eastern Wa.
Here is a link to the updated playoff bracket as we know it. There is a bit of confusion (probably on my part) that involves some games for next week, but it should be sorted out quickly. I’ll see that it’s updated regularly once play gets underway.
Please reserve Sunday June 2, 2013 for the Garfield Lacrosse End of Season Party. This annual event is a formal wrap up to the season and will be held no matter what the season’s outcome…win or lose! Thanks go to Lee Rhodes for agreeing to host this gala event. (I think the bruising from the arm twisting should be healed by then…)
One reminder…the Garfield Men’s Lacrosse Club is a parent run organization, incorporated by the State of Washington. As such we have a Board of Directors with elected officers. Our bylaws state that all members of the Board must have a player on the team, so following this season we will have a number of vacancies to fill.
CJ Voss, Vicki Allen, and myself (Paul Strick) will be resigning our posts. We will have one more board meeting following the season wrap up to elect new officers. If you are interested in serving on the board, or would just like to be a bit more involved in how things are run, drop us an email and state your interest and we will be glad to include you in the meeting.
Finally, I want to thank all the players and coaches for an outstanding regular season and along with all of the parents and supporters, wish them the best of luck heading into the postseason...
