This Week's News

Last week the Bulldogs came up on the short end in both of their games. Tuesday, they lost an overtime heartbreaker against Nathan Hale, who before that contest, had managed to scrape out only two wins on the season. Final score was 7-6.

The Bulldogs’ hope of bouncing back from that disappointing loss was frustrated last Friday in a game against #2 Blanchet in a game where our offense was as cold as the weather. The ‘Dogs managed to put only 5 goals on the board by the time the 4th quarter came to a merciful finish. The final tally had Garfield on the short end of a 12-5 blowout.

This loss drops the Bulldogs to 5-3-0 for the season, 3 games out of first, and 1 game behind Blanchet. With regular season games remaining against both frontrunners, the ‘Dogs are still in position to make up some ground in the latter part of the season.

This week, the Garfield squad will look to put those recent losses behind them and get back in the win column with a Wednesday (4/28) game against Metro League frontrunner Roosevelt at
Genesee Field. Game time is 5pm.

Later on in the week on Friday (4/30), the Bulldogs travel to
Franklin HS for a 4:30pm away game with the Quakers. Make note of the earlier start and plan accordingly.

Please make an effort to come on out to see the boys play. It means a lot to them to have fans on the sidelines, making noise and cheering them on. It’s a bit intimidating when the
visiting crowd is larger than the home fans’.

Results and News for 4/18/2010

The Garfield Bulldogs came up winners this past Friday afternoon in their contest with Eastern Conference representative Three Rivers at Genesee Field. The Bulldogs fought like, well, bulldogs jumping out to an early lead and never looking back. With multiple players scoring multiple goals the Bulldog attack looked as solid as it ever has all season. Coupled with a stingy defense and “
nasty” play by keeper Danny Strick, the Bulldog’s chewed up Three Rivers in a 13-5 victory.

With this win, Garfield improves their season record to 5-2-0 to move within a game and a half of division leader Roosevelt, and a half game behind second place Blanchet.

The only downside in this victory was the loss of defensive longpole Danny Ingman who suffered a rather nasty double fracture of his collarbone. We wish him a speedy and full recovery...

Games scheduled this week include a night game (8pm start) with Nathan Hale at Summit Fields on Tuesday, 4/20 and an all-of-a-sudden important game with Blanchet at Genesee on Friday 4/23 at 5pm.

Please try and get out to support the team...your presence on the side line becomes all that more important as the season heats up.

GO BULLDOGS!

Road Trip Results

The Bulldogs split their games this past weekend against the Eastern Conference on their roadtrip to the Washington State hinterlands.

The first game was on Saturday night in chilly, windy Yakima where they faced-off against Selah. After a slow start, Garfield found its pace late in the first period and never looked back. Backed by seasoned play from senior Andy Boelter (4 goals), Reid Kenny (3 goals) and goalie Danny Strick (14 saves), the Bulldogs improved their season record to 3-1-0 with this 13-6 victory.

Sunday’s game with Wenatchee (5-1-0 overall) was a different story. Unable to mount any sustained offensive pressure the Bulldogs were out-manned and out-hustled by a larger, well-rested Wenatchee squad. Cedric Rhodes contributed 2 goals, while Carl Barnes and Andy Boelter each recorded 10 ground balls. Keeper Danny Strick racked up 16 saves, but the game ultimately went to the home team who posted the 12-3 victory. The Bulldogs dropped to 3-2-0 overall.

The Bulldogs face off against Metro rival Franklin this Tuesday, 4/13 and Eastern conference visitor Three Rivers this Friday, 4/16. Both games are at
Genesee Field at 5pm. Come on out and cheer on the team, they really appreciate the show of support!

As a reminder, we will be needing scorers/timers for both of these contests. Please
contact us if you are able to help...

And finally, due to this past weekend’s activities, practice for Monday, 4/12 will be only 1 hour long...5-6pm...

The Seattle Times High School Sports Highlights featured Lacrosse quite prominently in the most recent issue. In fact, there was even a piece about the Garfield/Roosevelt game last Tuesday.
The video is here for your enjoyment. Look for our short, but sweet segment about 2min30sec into the video!

We look forward to seeing everyone at the games this weekend.

Looking ahead to next week, we have two games, one on Tuesday and the other next Friday. We need scorers and timekeepers for both games. Please let us know if you can help.

We’ll be posting an update on this weekend’s games later on and will give scheduling details for next week at that time...

We have asked that you contact us to let us know if your son needs transportation, or if you can offer a ride to any player that may need it. We have had some responses, but there are still a number of uncertainties remaining. Please
let us know ASAP, so we can make sure we have proper arrangements made for all who are coming.

Some families have responded to this request before the dates were changed, and it’d help us sleep at night to get a confirmation of these plans to make sure we’ve accounted for everyone.

The Club may contact you early this week if we haven’t heard any response...

For those of you living in a cave, you may not be aware that the Bulldogs won their second outing of the season 11-6, against Highline on March 26th at
Genesee Field. Anchored by solid performances by Cedric Rhodes (4 goals, 2 ground balls) and keeper Danny Strick (16 saves) the Bulldogs are now 2-0-0, tied for 1st in the Metro division with Roosevelt (3-0-0).

Their next contest is this Tuesday, April 6th when the Bulldogs will face off against that Roosevelt squad in a battle of the unbeatens at
Lower Woodland Park at 5pm. Come out and cheer on the boys; they are playing hard and looking pretty good this season. They will definitely appreciate the support!

We hope to see all of you at Tuesday’s game, and this weekend on the road...
