Schedules

Changes to this week's schedule:

The game with Tahoma HS, originally scheduled for this Wednesday, May 12th, has been cancelled.

The Bulldogs’ return to postseason play starts this Friday, at 7pm with a quarterfinal game against Cascade Division leader Lynnwood at
Lynnwood HS.

Please make an effort to get out to this game and get our guys riled up. They’ve played hard this season, and have fought through much adversity to get to this point. They and their coaches have shown tremendous heart and deserve our support!

And finally, from our friends up North, who find themselves in the NLL Final game at Comcast Arena in Everett, Wa...

This week in Bulldog Lax...

Last week was especially satisfying for the Garfield Bulldogs. Wednesday saw the Bulldogs post a much needed victory over then conference leader Roosevelt with a 9-8 win. Friday afternoon, Garfield
(7-4-0) continued their winning ways with a convincing 16-1 decision over Franklin.

Also on Friday, the playoff race become a bit clearer, with Blanchet’s
(9-2-0) victory over Roosevelt (8-3-0). At this point, the ‘Dogs are solidly in 3rd place and are in the playoffs, two games behind Blanchet, and one game back of Roosevelt. With only two league games remaining, including one against Blanchet, the Bulldogs have once again returned to postseason play. Please check the current standings as the 2010 regular season comes to a conclusion.

This week’s games include a Tuesday night game (8pm) against Highline at Burien’s
Moshier Memorial Park. Thursday has them in their final league game at Blanchet at 6pm. Next week, the 2010 season concludes with a non-league contest with Tahoma at 7pm in Covington.

Please make an effort to come out and support the team. They have worked hard all season and really appreciate your efforts to cheer them on.

This Week's News

Last week the Bulldogs came up on the short end in both of their games. Tuesday, they lost an overtime heartbreaker against Nathan Hale, who before that contest, had managed to scrape out only two wins on the season. Final score was 7-6.

The Bulldogs’ hope of bouncing back from that disappointing loss was frustrated last Friday in a game against #2 Blanchet in a game where our offense was as cold as the weather. The ‘Dogs managed to put only 5 goals on the board by the time the 4th quarter came to a merciful finish. The final tally had Garfield on the short end of a 12-5 blowout.

This loss drops the Bulldogs to 5-3-0 for the season, 3 games out of first, and 1 game behind Blanchet. With regular season games remaining against both frontrunners, the ‘Dogs are still in position to make up some ground in the latter part of the season.

This week, the Garfield squad will look to put those recent losses behind them and get back in the win column with a Wednesday (4/28) game against Metro League frontrunner Roosevelt at
Genesee Field. Game time is 5pm.

Later on in the week on Friday (4/30), the Bulldogs travel to
Franklin HS for a 4:30pm away game with the Quakers. Make note of the earlier start and plan accordingly.

Please make an effort to come on out to see the boys play. It means a lot to them to have fans on the sidelines, making noise and cheering them on. It’s a bit intimidating when the
visiting crowd is larger than the home fans’.

Results and News for 4/18/2010

The Garfield Bulldogs came up winners this past Friday afternoon in their contest with Eastern Conference representative Three Rivers at Genesee Field. The Bulldogs fought like, well, bulldogs jumping out to an early lead and never looking back. With multiple players scoring multiple goals the Bulldog attack looked as solid as it ever has all season. Coupled with a stingy defense and “
nasty” play by keeper Danny Strick, the Bulldog’s chewed up Three Rivers in a 13-5 victory.

With this win, Garfield improves their season record to 5-2-0 to move within a game and a half of division leader Roosevelt, and a half game behind second place Blanchet.

The only downside in this victory was the loss of defensive longpole Danny Ingman who suffered a rather nasty double fracture of his collarbone. We wish him a speedy and full recovery...

Games scheduled this week include a night game (8pm start) with Nathan Hale at Summit Fields on Tuesday, 4/20 and an all-of-a-sudden important game with Blanchet at Genesee on Friday 4/23 at 5pm.

Please try and get out to support the team...your presence on the side line becomes all that more important as the season heats up.

GO BULLDOGS!

Weekend Update

Just a reminder regarding this weekend:

The schedule for this weekend is as follows:

Game 1, Saturday 4/10 at 5pm vs Selah at Selah High School to be followed by:

Game 2, Sunday 4/11 at 1pm vs Wenatchee at
Wenatchee Valley College.

The team has reservations for Saturday night in Yakima’s Oxford Inn. We’ve reserved a number of rooms there for players, families, and coaches.

Plans are to have players stay (4) to a room. Player lodging will be $25 each. Coach Kelly asks that all players bring $50 in additional spending money to cover the cost of food and incidentals for the overnight stay. Please
let us know of any questions or concerns...

Players needing rides have been assigned to drivers with room to spare...you should all know by know who you are traveling with.

We will be at the Oxford Inn by early afternoon to set up the team’s rooms. If you want to stop by before the game to check in and get settled, please do so. If you are planning to go direct to the game, please be at the field by 3pm for stretching and warmups.

The Seattle Times High School Sports Highlights featured Lacrosse quite prominently in the most recent issue. In fact, there was even a piece about the Garfield/Roosevelt game last Tuesday.
The video is here for your enjoyment. Look for our short, but sweet segment about 2min30sec into the video!

We look forward to seeing everyone at the games this weekend.

Looking ahead to next week, we have two games, one on Tuesday and the other next Friday. We need scorers and timekeepers for both games. Please let us know if you can help.

We’ll be posting an update on this weekend’s games later on and will give scheduling details for next week at that time...

Road Trip Changes

The rumors you may have been hearing are now confirmed. Coach Kelly has just informed us that the Friday, 4/9 game vs Wenatchee has been moved to Sunday, 4/11 at 1pm. This change was made since there was a conflict with the school schedule of several team members on Friday night, April 9th.

The schedule for that weekend is now:

Game 1 at 5pm vs Selah at Selah High School to be followed by:

Game 2 at 1pm vs Wenatchee at
Wenatchee Valley College.

As you might imagine, we will be needing to reevaluate our lodging requirements based on this new information. Please stay tuned for further updates as they come in...

A quick reminder that The Bulldogs’ second game of the season is a 5pm matchup with Highline at Genesee Field tomorrow, Friday March 26th. Please come on down and cheer on the guys is what looks to be a very entertaining game. See you there...!

The next Garfield Bulldog game is Friday, March 26th when we host Highline in a 5pm contest at Genesee Field.

As a reminder, The Bulldogs will be traveling to the hinterlands of Eastern Washington for a two game match with the Eastern members of the Metro Division the weekend of April 9th and 10th. We’ll be seeking lodging somewhere over there as a group. If you’d like to attend the games and plan on the overnight,
let us know so we can get an appropriate number of reservations.

Message from Coach Kelly

We’ve received the following communique from Ryan Kelly this morning. Most of you may have gotten it, but I am putting it here for some wider coverage:

Hello Everyone

I am sorry for the late notice on this, but I am moving today's practice (Monday, 3/15) to
Georgetown Play Field for today only. Practice will start at the same time 5pm and go to 7pm as usual. I told your sons about the change on Saturday, but I forgot to send out the e-mail to the parents.

Georgetown Play Field
750 S Homer St Seattle WA 98134

Also due to the injuries we sustained in Saturday’s Jamboree, I have canceled the out-of-division games vs Lakeside and Overlake. We cannot afford to have any more players injured, and I don't want to take a chance of having a player get hurt in a game that does not count.

One last announcement: We have our first Home game of the season tomorrow vs Nathan Hale @5pm. Please come out and cheer us on in our home opener.

Thanks
Ryan

Some News...

This Saturday, 3/13 the Garfield Bulldogs will play in a preseason Round Robin Tournament, hosted by Nathan Hale. The team will play three shortened games. All games will be at Nathan Hale High School and their adjacent Fields.

The schedule and game locations are is as follows:

12:30 p.m. Garfield vs Lake Washington Summit 2
12:30 p.m. Woodinville vs Nathan Hale NH Stadium

1:45 p.m. Garfield vs Nathan Hale Summit 2
1:45 p.m. Woodinville vs Lake Washington NH Stadium

3:00 p.m. Nathan Hale vs Lake Washington Summit 2
3:00 p.m. Garfield vs Woodinville NH Stadium

The tournament format is as follows:

(4) Teams, each plays three mini-games.
Mini-Games: (2) 20-minute running-time halves, 5-minute half.
20 to 30 minute break between games for rest and instruction.

Coach Kelly will probably tell you something different at today’s practice, but plan to be at the field, ready to warmup by 11:00. Pack a lunch and extra water if you want...

The
first official game for the Bulldogs will be this coming Tuesday, March 16th at Genesee Field. where the ‘dogs will take on Nathan Hale. Game time is 5pm.

Next Thursday, March 18th, we’ll travel to
Lakeside, also for a 5pm contest.

On another related subject, The Bulldogs will be traveling east of the mountains this season for a two game series with Wenatchee and Selah on Friday, April 9th and Saturday April, 10th. We are planning to travel caravan style, leaving Seattle about 1pm on Friday the 9th. Players whose schools are in session that day will need to arrange early dismissal, probably by noon.

The Club is looking for reasonable lodging in the Wenatchee area for Friday night. Plans are to have 4-players per room, so the cost-per-person lodging fee should be quite reasonable. Players will need money for their own food/entertainment/etc as well.

We’d like to get an accurate headcount on who, other than the players/coaches, will be needing lodging. If you plan on accompanying your son on this great opportunity, please let us know at the
Garfield Lacrosse Club how many extra people you want to bring, and we’ll try and get everyone in the same location. Please keep in mind that those costs will be your responsibility. When the plans are finalized, we will let everyone know the exact cost. Contact us with any concerns you may have.

Please see the
Schedule for these game times and exact locations.

2010 Season Starts Tomorrow!

It’s official! The 2010 season of Bulldog Lacrosse kicks off tomorrow with the first practice of the season!

As you all probably know by now, practices will be held at
Genesee Field, between 5 and 7pm, Monday through Friday, Coach Ryan Kelly “kindly requests” that all players be dressed and ready to go by 4:45pm.

Team Captains will lead the team through warmups so as to be ready to start line drills promptly at 5pm.

Please be aware that participation in Garfield Lax activities are non-discretionary and attendance is a requirement for team membership. See
Coach Kelly for further information.

Despite our gentle, persistent reminders over the past month, it appears that some players still have not submitted the signed
Liability Waivers. Without having this important paperwork on file, League rules prohibit participation. This is a direct result of the Lystedt Law which is aimed at concussion awareness and prevention. Please understand that this is a requirement that will be enforced...

That being said, we are excited to be a part of Bulldog Lax and look forward to the start of this season. Players seem enthusiastic and ready to get down to some hard work. We are looking forward to supporting them, their coaches, and their parents however we can.

As a reminder, the
Season Schedule is posted over on the right side of this page, and we will soon have that information added to the Calendar.

Spring Conditioning Starts Next Week

Preparations for the 2010 Season continues next week with the start of the Spring Sports Conditioning Program. Starting Monday, February 15th, these Monday through Thursday, 5-7pm sessions will run for two weeks. These are designed to whip bodies into shape for the 2010 Lacrosse season. All sessions are at
Genesee Park, under the lights...

Sessions are non-mandatory, but participation is
strongly encouraged.

A few words about registration:

We have a good number of players who have completed the online form and submitted it, but have not yet mailed in the signed Waivers and payment. We also have a number of players who have indicated that they will be participating this year, but have not yet submitted any registration information to us.

If you are in either category, please go to the
Liability Waivers, or the Registration form and get the process completed.

Also, please remember that it is a requirement that all players carry a current US Lacrosse high school membership. To check your status, renew, or apply for/upgrade your membership, please go to the
membership page at US Lacrosse.

Final Captain's Session Tomorrow!

The Season’s final Captain’s Practice session will be held tomorrow, 2/1/2010 at
SODO Arena Sports from 3:30-5pm. If you can make it, please try and come on out.

We’d like to thank Peter Vogt for running the clinics this year, and wish him luck as he starts the 2010 season of middle school lax with The
CSLC Wolfpack where he is the 7/8 grade coach.

The Spring Sports Conditioning Clinics will start February 15th, Mon-Fri, from 5-7pm at
Genesee Park. These are non-mandatory sessions designed to get all participants in top physical form for spring sports. It is highly suggested that all players make an effort to attend.

Registration continues...For those of you that have already registered, thank you!

If you are interested in playing, please visit the
Registration Page for more information and to start the process. If you have any questions about this year’s program, contact coach Ryan Kelly for answers.

Monday Captain's Practice

The Captain’s Practice Sessions will resume Monday 1/25/2010 at
SODO Arena Sports, 3:30-5pm. Coach Peter Vogt has asked to have as many players as possible show up to these sessions to better prepare for the season.

Registration continues...For those of you that have already registered, thank you!

If you are interested in playing, please visit the
Registration Page for more information and to start the process. If you have any questions about this year’s program, contact coach Ryan Kelly for answers.

Captain's Session Schedule

Due to the fact that tomorrow (1/18/2010) is a holiday, the fanatics at Bulldog Lacrosse will NOT be hosting the Captain’s Practice Session normally scheduled. The field is still reserved for our use, so if players want to show up and throw the ball around, they are certainly welcome. Pete Vogt will not be in attendance...

The regular schedule will resume next Monday, January 25th...

The Captain’s Sessions are skill building workouts, designed to get those cobwebs knocked off of those sticks. Please bring your equipment and join in the fun. There is no charge for these sessions. (When was the last time you saw something LAX-related with no cost...!)

As we gear up for the start of the season, we’d like to remind all parents that the success of
all lacrosse programs, not just ours, relies on the commitment of both players and their parents. Volunteer opportunities exist at all levels. Perhaps the most visible, (and fun) is scorekeeping and timekeeping. By helping out here, you become part of the game. You will get a chance to sit on the officials’ side of the field and gain valuable insight into the game and its’ personalities.

This year
WALAX, the sport’s governing body in Washington, is hosting a scorer/timekeeper clinic on Sunday, February 28th. For a nominal $5.00 fee (OK, we had to hit you up for something) you can take part in a pretty thorough class that covers the rules of the game and how to effectively and accurately “keep the book.” Details for this year’s clinic can be found here.

Just one more reminder that Registrations are now due and are still being accepted for the 2010 season. If you haven’t registered yet, please do so at your earliest convenience. You can start the process by visiting the
Registration Page.

Please be aware that we cannot allow any player to start official practice sessions without having all
Liability Waivers, Registration fees and a current USLAX registration on file.

If you have any questions about the Registration process, you can contact either the
Registrar, Coach Ryan Kelly, or us here at Bulldog Lacrosse, and we’ll do our best to help.
